Diffusion of Thyme, Cinnamon and Oregano essential oils in different nanocellulose matrices

Solubility and diffusivity of Thyme, Cinnamon Oregano essential oils in nanocellulose films, with different carboxymethylation degree, were investigated view potential use active packaging applications. liquid resulted to increase the degree for both, Thyme while it was non-monotonous Cinnamon. showed higher solubility (about 20%wt) followed by Oregano. Fickian diffusion described behaviour samples even if some case data better fitted using exponential functions. In general, Diffusivities values ranged 10−11 cm2⁄s fast process 10−13 slow Carboxymethylation affected antimicrobial oils, which therefore can be tuned appropriate choice material.
